Is there any way of preventing them?

I know that the herpes simplex virus lies dormant and wakens every now and then. I have yet another cold sore which is being zapped by Zovirax but they are uncomfortable and unsightly. Is there a way of stopping them recurring?

Hi Tilly I get cold sores too and bloody hate them. I always think they look a bit dirty. I'm sure you know as much as I do about them but these things help me . . . I reckon prevention is so important because once those tiny blisters pop there is little more that the zovirax can do. I think it is great to use zovirax early, but once it has turned into a cut/sore then I stop...

Shall we see if Tonyav's free?

Briefly.....I had undies on the airer around the kitchen radiator......my granddaughter was making cards with glue and glitter on the table.....she said it was an accident.......but I now know it wasn't..... :-)

I was getting ready for a gynae appointment....and rushing.....grabbed the knickers from the airer but it wasn't til I saw the smile on the face of the doctor examining me that I realised she had sprinkled my knickers with glitter....on purpose! And as you know.....glitter sticks everywhere!

I bet that made the doctor's eyes sparkle. :-)

Yeah, that'll be a laugh. Ask him......
Tilly - do your's move about. When I was a kid the were always on my lips, then they started coming up on my chin and Once right inside my lower lip which was horrible. The last few have appeared inside my nostrils. I didn't get to the last one in time and the scabs stared forming - can you imagine how that looked I felt like a leper - unclean!

Margo, yes, they do. the worst episode I had was when I was around twenty and they spread all over my lips and cheeks. That was awful. I'll never forget it.

The ones in the nose are dreadful, Margo. They take ages to heal and are very painful. Ughh!
They are horrible things. The one I had right across the inside of my lower lip was when I was on holiday (nearly always get one then) and the only thing I could eat was lukewarm soup through a straw - I was not a happy bunny. Mind you I still managed alcoholic beverages :-)
Question Author
Cold, white wine is very soothing, Margo. :-)
That's what I found Tilly - interspersed with the odd G & T !

The trouble with Zovirax is
a) People think you have toothpaste round your mouth and tell you so.
b) It makes the wine glass greasy.
Even worse when you have to shove it up your nose!!
