I know this has been asked in the past but with rapid changes in technology I thought there might be other simple methods of downloading You Tube video clips to a flash drive. But I also have to admit that it's such a long time since I did this that I've forgotten how !

Cheers.

For downloading video I use Firefox with the add on “Flash Video Downloader - YouTube HD Download [4K]” available from
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/user/artur-dubovoy/?src=api
Once you start playing the video clip you can stop it click on the download arrow and if available select the type and quality you want and save it anywhere you wish

Thanks, Bertrum. It downloads to Windows Media player but I don't seem able to save it to the library and I can't see any way to send it to pc or flash drive.

Can you help again please ?

The download arrow for The Flash Video Downloader is generally located on the right of Firefox’s toolbar and will be greyed out. When you select a video and click on play the arrow will change colour to blue you can then stop the video and click on the download arrow and then select the type (MP4, WebM etc) and quality (1080,720,480 etc) of the download once you select the download you will be able to select the location to download to.
This is a demo of the older version but will give you a very good idea how it works

Thanks again, B, but i've downloaded the clip I want and can open it from the 'downloads' arrow to the left of the Mozilla 'Home' or 'Start Page' icon. The clip plays via Windows Media Player but I can't find any way to send it to my 'videos' file or to my F drive ( memory stick).

The link you provided shows hot to install the add -on etc, which I had already done and to perform the download but then bears little resemblance to what I get.

So, to summarise, I have the required clip in my 'downloads' file - and it plays in windows Media Player but I cant save ot or send it to pc or F drive and it doesn't seem to be in any other folder etc.

Could this be a clip that cannot be saved ?

Please bear with me; I am not too skilled .

Thanks.

If you go into your downloads folder and right click on the file do you get the option to Save As or Send To?

Hi Bertrum,

Here's the YouTube link I want to put on my flash drive. Perhaps you might like to have a go yourself - and I think you might enjoy it, too. It's hilarious, unless you happen to be one of the insulted parties, which is just about everyone !

I had no problem downloading I created two screenshots for you to look at
This one is after clicking on the download arrow from the toolbar (Top right has turned blue) you will see the available types and qualities available the top one is MP4 360p 21.53MB

This one is after clicking on the Download button for that selection you will see the box open which will give you access to your drives/directories where you want to save the file

Not easily insulted but he is funny

Thanks B.

I must be doing something wrong because I've done all you describe and the clip is sent to my 'downloads' list as I described at 17.52. It is from that point that I can't save it anywhere. How did you do it ? There is no
'send to' option when I right click on the download link.

What if I try with the 'tinypic' programme you are using ?

Cheers.

PS. Clip 2 of the tour is even funnier.
Question Author
Done it !!!

After diligent persistence and your very helpful advice I've finally managed to record all four clips of this remarkably amusing and charismatic character's tour. I have been well and truly insulted in more than one category but I still loved it.

Thanks Gain.

On my way out now so will have a think as to why we are not synchronised and post back tomorrow
Glad you managed to get it working. It occurred to me ten minutes after going out the door you were viewing the download list which is not the file but clicking it will play the video, right clicking and selecting “Open Folder Containing” should then have taken you to the download folder and the file itself where you should be able to right click and “send to” “cut” or “copy” etc.
Question Author
Yes, that's exactly what I was doing wrong and I just clicked on the ' open folder containing' link out of curiosity and all was well.

Many thanks for your help.

Have a Happy Christmas.
