All I remember it was quite up tempo and it was by a male singer with I think quite a high falsetto voice. Anyone know please?

The only singer I know who sang Sally was Gracie Fields.

Thank you I will check Gerry Monroe out on youtube, see if it is the one.
Eric Clapton sang one called something like Lay Down Sally. Wasn't falsetto though

I hadn't heard the Gerry Monroe one before. It seems to fit the description well
Tahnks for the Eric Clapton one. from 1977. I think that track may have influenced Mark Knoppler/Dire Straits in their early years
