Flipping heck....John Glenn has been around my whole life !

I was only 9 years old when he did his big thing, and what an amazing thing it was at the time.

RIP Mr Glenn !

He was a bit before my time but well known of course as America's Gagarin, Leonov ...
Probably now drinking cocktails with God, as the Mekons once sang :-)
A bit before my time as well, However great respect to the pioneering exploits of Astronauts and Cosmonauts alike.

RIP John Glenn.
An hero of mine as a small boy ( we all wanted to be astronauts in those days)
RIP John Glenn.
I agree, tony, RIP, and go and chase Psybbs....equally wondrous as John G was.....
Is Alan Shepperd still alive? He was the first American in space, but his flight was just a suborbital 'hop'. Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth.
The USSR really caught the USA napping when they launched Gagarine into a full multi orbit flight back in 1961!
Alan Shepard died 1998.

RIP John Glenn.
I remember him, RIP John.
John Glenn was essential and instrumental, to the formation of America's space programme, and the Mini Series 'The Right Stuff'.......

concentrating on the original Mercury astronauts, is superb and deserves a watch, if never seen. You can get it on DVD in the UK.
Just see how highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes it's been given.(98% critics and 90% audiences)

Sad loss.... but a great innings, sir

RIP John Glenn
Yes, sad news indeed.

Apologies for this aside, but 86yo Buzz Aldrin is presently being treated in hospital by a Dr David Bowie - how about that for a space oddity??
ag - definitely an oddity! Yes, very much R.I.P. John Glenn. As OP, he's been around most of my life.
John Glenn lived down the road from us
A sad loss.

RIP John Glenn.
Part of history ...RIP
absolutely mikey, the right stuff indeed, these mercury program guys are legends. Gerry Anderson was right to honour them as he did.
I walked through the first class curtain of an aircraft once and came face to face with Neil Armstrong - at least he was travelling in comfort.
really 237? I'd love to meet any of those guys, I'm so envious!
