Long Running Script

Lately Answerbank is hanging and delivers a message that it is due to a long running script. Any ideas what that script might be? IE 11 and Windows 10.

I'll be interested, also, to see the answer. This is not a new problem, but nobody seems to be able, or willing, to do anything about it.

If you are using Internet Explorer, it is understandable that you are experiencing problems. Get yourself a decent Browser such as Firefox; which is deemed by all the experts to be the best.

I get the problem sometimes (using Firefox). I'm given the option to stop the script, so I do, and the problem goes away.

Long running script errors are generally a website problem or a browser add on problem
You could try using IE with all add on’s disabled to see if it’s an add on problem
Open Run which is “Windows logo key + r” then press “Enter”. Type in “iexplore.exe -extoff” then "ok"
If its works ok you will then have to disable each add on one at a time to discover which one is causing the problem

Using IE11 with W10 is madness. Microsoft finally admitted that Internet Explorer is, and always has been, a totally pathetic browser and introduced something (Edge) which is, at least marginally, better to go with W10. So if you really must use a Microsoft browser (WHY? WHY? WHY?) use something decent such as Firefox (which is what I use) or Chrome or Avant or Vivaldi or . . . the list goes on!

Even so, 'long running script' problems with AB seem always to be associated with the ads on here, which is why so many people use ad blockers.

Obviously the Ed doesn't like that (because its the ads which pay for this site) and I, for one, will be perfectly happy to disable my ad blocker on AB as soon as the problems stop occurring. Hopefully the new, all-singing, all-dancing version of AB, which we've been promised for ages, will finally get to grips with the problem and then everyone can be happy. Until then though there seems to be no other way to get the site to function properly (at all times and with all browsers).

AB not only needs ads, it also needs users to be able to access the site in the first place!

I'm sure it's the moving ads that are the culprit.

Or one of the culprits at least...

I thought Microsoft brought in Edge to make people think better of IE!
Let's face it it doesn't inspire much confidence when you bring it up and it can't find its default start up URL !
