Agreed (although depending on where you draw the line on where corruption starts you could argue most governments are corrupt to some degree)
Do you disagree with the Tory view on this then Naomi?
I disagree with anyone who thinks money should be handed out third world governments.
'to third world governments'.
Fair enough, Naomi. Do you have a view then on how much should the UK government should give to the Red Cross then?
Got to go to work now but will look in this evening.
No, I don't. As I understand it the amount given is determined by law, so whatever I think is irrelevant.
I think it's not a law as such, naomi -more an agreed target of 0.7% of GDP which we meet but some nations just fail to meet, so maybe we could get away with a reduction of a billion next year.
From aog's link:

//It is due to increase every year as long as the economy grows, after David Cameron passed a law forcing the government to spend 0.7 per cent of GDP on foreign aid every year.//

Thanks. If it's a UK law it could be changed perhaps if anyone had the will. Seems an odd law to make when the G7 target was being observed anyway
I`m with TTT - we`ve poured billions into other countries and nothing ever changes - lets keep it here to smooth Brexit.
// Anybody remember Nkrumah (the first benificiary of the African "winds of change"), and his grandiose building projects?//

of course I recollect Nkrumah who led the gold coast to glorious freedom in 1957 I think. It was at a time that Cambridge was still running colonial officers' courses as Africa independent or not would need administrator for at least another 200y
so much for forecasts
also I think he was the one who said he could drive a coach and horses ( England educated ) thro the wonderful post independence constitution he was given

An MP described one of his yachts that the British were building ( out of the funds he was given by the er British ) as a "floating gin palace"
