Computer Mouse Not Working Properly

I've just bought a new wireless Mouse and it's taking me an age to move the arrow to where I want it, so yesterday I bought one with a wire but that's producing the same problem. I've tried running them on a Mouse mat, on the desk top, on paper, but nothing helps. It's all so slow and frustrating. Any suggestions will be very welcome.

There's only one thing that will speed up a mouse, and that's a cat.

control panel > mouse > pointer options

there you can change the amount the pointer moves when you move the mouse
