If you look after filters ect it helps to prolong their life .I know dyson are expensive but been worth every penny . I have bought another one the dyson v6 £165 in the sale from £299 . Leave it upstairs and a back up if my old one dies .
Love our dc59 Wend, as you say, if the filters and rotary brush are cleaned and when emptied the cavity is properly cleaned it is a good machine. I can take it out and vacuum the cars, and the attachments allow us to swish it round the ceiling and light fittings with no effort. We still have the dyson ball upright in the shed but it has not been used for 3 years. I use a small clean paintbrush when I clean up the inside dust cavity and pull it to pieces every couple of months and give it the once over. The only thing we have replaced is the rotary brush and that is a 2 minute job.
