Anyone got any recent (2016) experience of dealing with car park fines issued by Paid Parking Company There's a lot of stuff on the internet about their bullying tactics, but nothing recent I can find. The driver was only a little over the time limit, and was given misleading information about the car park by the neighbouring business.

There are 'issues' with that company threatening action against this site for incorrect/abusive comments in the past.
The first port of call should always be to complain to the actual store that runs the car park - not to the enforcement company. They can require the enforcement company to withdraw the penalty, assuming you have a decent case for your use of the car park.
People will say 'ignore it and it will go away' and 'nothing will happen' - that is no longer true - this enforcement company in particular is bulk processing enforcements through tame magistrates - you may be lucky, but I'd be a bit more worried than in the past.

As far as I am aware they are not fines but parking charge invoices.

Sorry SlackA - didn't intend to get at you - I know it's not a fine, but a request for payment - albeit one that has now been proven to be legal and enforceable.

Thanks guys. There's just something odd about the whole thing. The company-who-apparently-cannot-be-named did have clear signs up, so no problem with that. The problem was that that the business whose car park it was had a 2.5 hour event on, and because there was no way to pay for extra time over the free 2 hours, they were telling drivers it was fine and monitoring wasn't operational that day. Forgive me for being cynical, but one has to wonder why that mis-information was being given out.
^^ then your first action must be to complain to the company whose car park it was. They should instruct the parking company to withdraw the invoice.
