Use a micro wave. Takes minutes.
If your pudding is already fully cooked ( i.e.a bought one) it should need 1 – 2 hours. Unless you are sure it contains less than 50% total sugars, do not microwave it as it may burst into flames.
Dear me, there's a lot of rot talked about microwaving Christmas puds!!
Using an 800w microwave...
Reheat a one pound pud for one minute forty seconds.
Reheat a two pound pud for two minutes.
Adjust the timings if you have a bigger or smaller pud. Easy peas and very unlikely to burst into flames.
Ah...but is OP cooking it....or just re-heating it? It's not clear from the question.
Ok, for clarity...
To COOK Christmas puds in a 800w microwave...
A 2lb pud..cook 3 mins, stand for 4 mins, cook for 4 mins 10 seconds.
A 1lb pud..cook 1 min 40 secs, stand for 4 mins, cook 2 mins 20 secs.
To reheat on Christmas Day see my previous post.
I've been cooking and reheating Christmas puds like this for the last 20 or more years, I have yet to have one explode, burst into flames or otherwise destroy itself. They come out exactly as if you've steamed them for hours and hours and hours and hours and...get my drift? :o)
here's a link to make a Christmas pud from scratch in a slow cooker. Looks lovely to me http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/33831/slow-cooker-christmas-pudding.aspx
Christmas pud is only going to catch fire if you cook it too long. Microwave is so much faster than boiling people leave them far too long .
A full size pud cooks from 'raw' in 7 to 12 mins depending on the recipe. We reheat individual portions for 15 to 20 seconds.
Years ago my son reheated a single portion of pud for 5 minutes, it caught fire !!
W'll have no 'boiling people' I know relatives can become annoying, but really!;-)
It's the same with steak and kidney suet puddings. You can steam for hours on end or microwave them in minutes.

Sorry everyone. I should have said my mum used to cook hers for 9 hours when she made it and 3 hours before we had it on christmas day... I have taken over making the same recipe so it is home made and as I said already cooked for 9 hours.... I was asking if it could be carried on for the final 3 hours in a slow cooker and if so how long and what heat should it be on.? As I usually boil in a saucepan... many thanks x
I would just reheat it for 2 minutes in a microwave as it is already cooked.
I would not use a slow cooker unless I had no other way to heat it.
If you do use a slow cooker then 1 hour to warm it up should be enough.
