Drainage Pipes
10 Answers
Hey, the waste pipe for my washing machine is a metal pipe that goes into a concrete floor, which i then put the drainage pipe from my washing machine into. Now i want to connect my dishwasher up to the same drainage pipe, i have a bit of a problem as the metal pipe is not thick enough to put both drainage pipes in. Does anyone know of any connections i can buy so i can connect both my washing machine and dishwasher drainage pipes to the same waste pipe (connecting one of them up to the sink pipe work is not an option due to the layout of my kitchen)

You could have both your washing machine and your dishwasher connected to it.

tony you're brilliant thankyou. I did have a look on the screw fix website before posting the question, but it must of been in the wrong section as they didn't have anything like this. I need to attach it to a pain metal pipe without any screwing in ridges, should I just use the ptfe tape to help secure it?
Don't think that will work ( ptfe tape ), tandh.
Something like these will probably work though, drainage tube from both the washing machine and the dishwasher going into a Y piece and slotted into your metal drainpipe.

thanks tony, you did explain it well enough, but i'm glad I watched the video as I thought each appliance had to have it's own water supply. I think both of the products you recommended will work, but I think i'll go with the Y piece as it's cheep and I should just be able to push it into the metal pipe like you suggested. Thank you so much for you're help. So excited to have a dishwasher :-) hope you had a lovely Christmas
I think Tony has the right idea with his Y connector but the one he recommends has screw connectors and the ends of your drain pipes will be plain. I suggest you look for the sort of Y connector with push-fittings, like this:

I've seen them in many caravan shops but screwfix or B&Q may have also them. I recommend you also connect a piece of pipe to the third part of the connector and push it well down into the metal drain pipe - failure to do that may cause the pipe to jump out of the metal pipe when the machine empties.
