Hi sally, this is the poem that the registrar read out at my wedding in Gretna Green, the words are lovely but not mushy at all..
Your marriage is a journey that starts today, but unlike other journeys, there's no map to show the way.The road ahead has not been built, it will be completely new, and you'll need different qualities to help each other through.
You'll find you both need to be strong for there will be hills to climb, So each of you will want encouragement and support from time to time, But don't forget, the higher the hill, although the climb is steep, usually gives the most beautiful view and memories to keep.
Perhaps there will be valleys where you'll sometimes feel despair, But often the deepest valleys have the greatest peace in there, Enjoy the quiet moments, try to share each others load, Make it easier for you both to get back onto the road.
Sometimes they'll be no signposts, the way may not be clear, Other times there'll be so many, your paths may sometimes veer., If that is the case, I wish you strength to guide each other back, So that once more, you will find yourselves walking the same track
There's so much I could wish you, a lot i could say, That health and hapiness and joy go with you both today.
Sally,I hope you like this as much as i do, simple but it explains the reality of marriage nicely.
