Mailbox Sign
16 Answers
I have a mailbox on the wall at the side of my front door & I made a laminated sign which I placed on my letterbox saying "please use box on wall". There have been occasions when some people delivering junk type mail still try to get things through my letterbox. With the damp weather, the printing on the laminated sign has smudged & I have been looking for something to buy which says "use postbox on wall" or similar but I have drawn a blank. I got the external letterbox as I have a little terrier dog & although he doesn't destroy mail, he hides it lol. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

There are over 1000 branches of Timpson's in the Uk, so there should be one near to you. Any of them can engrave a suitable acrylic sign for you: https:// www. timpson. co. uk/ signs/ custom- sized- signs/ custom- test. html

I've had a similar problem and (no matter how good the sign) some people are lazy/stupid and will continue to use the letterbox.
It's actually very easy to bolt a standard letterbox (the sort with a flap on both inside and outside) shut - just get a bolt of a suitable length, drill holes in both plates and fasten though - job done.
Then the deliverers have to use your box.

Jackdaw has the answer. A couple of months ago a dog almost removed the end of my r-hand ring finger as I was posting a leaflet. Bit right through to the bone, all through the nail. I doubt if it is ever going to quite recover, I have a bulbous, numb area and hope the nail will grow enough to cover it. :(
I have actually glued the outside letterbox shut but believe it or not, someone tried very hard to open it just a few weeks ago even though the sign was clear saying to use the box on the wall. Yes, Jackdaw, I know about the inside cages for mail but decided to get an exterior box....if only everyone could read!!
Looks like you can make your own plate here .....

thanks for all your suggestions. Sorry to hear about your finger jourdain & hope it does recover for you. My dog never jumps up at the letterbox to grab the mail. He sits patiently on the floor, waits for it to reach the mat then scurries off to hid it (strange animal) hence the reason I bought the box. One hot day (remember??) in the summer I found two letters in the garden, still intact. Sure he thinks it is some sort of game, bless him
