the book has pictures of things happening. each picture is cut into 3 parts (first, then, finally). there are a bunch of picutres and the 3 sections are not in the same order, so the child must pick the pictures that essentially go together.
for example, one picture-set is a snowman melting. the first picture shows the whole snowman, the 2nd picture shows him slightly smaller and dripping, the final picture he is a puddle with a carrot floating in it.
another picture-set is a burning candle. the first is the full candle, the 2nd it is a bit shorter with dripping wax, the final is just barely a flame in a holder.
(sounds like we can use it even later to talk about changes in the states of matter and chemical changes! :D)
there are pictures on both sides of each "page".
the book is bound by a wire spiral - i guess you could undo the book to make card-like manipulatives. (maybe laminate for long-term high-usage)
i guess you could scan the pictures in, and the children could move them around in powerpoint or on a smartboard (assuming you have access to scanner and smartboard...)
i will get you the ISBN number for the book and post it tomorrow. (the book is "hidden" in a plastic bag in my closet in my bedroom - where my husband is currently sleeping soundly - he'd be mad if i woke him with the rustling of plastic! :D) you should be able to find it for purchase on-line should you choose to.
