Dogs on boats

Today we saw a couple of dogs on seperate boats and they seem to enjoy it. If anyone on here has a boat, do you take your dog with you? I quite like the idea but one of our dogs is quite small and a life jacket for dogs would be miles too big. She would probably just fit an armband.

Our dog loves our boat... gets all excited when were getting ready to go to the boat :) btw- whats your boat maggie?

I once knew a Labrador Retriever who swam all day long in the middle of a lake, here in Arizona, following his Master. I once had a friend, a Staffordshire Terrier, who loved the water but, kicking as hard as he could, Oscar always sank like a rock.....

My point is that each breed, as well as each individual, has their own talent and ability. Mayhaps your little dog is a natural but maybe not......

If I were to trust one of the "wrist-band" swim devices to a good dog, I would certainly not buy the cheapest I could find......it would have to be a high-quality piece of equipment!

If your dog is real tiny what about getting a pool noodle and slitting down the side and sliding your dog around the chest and belly with it? Almost like a "hot dog" look. use some velcro and attach it so it's secured around the dops neck and hind legs maybe? Or see if a childs water wings would work something for a baby. My GSD has a life jacket, she loves water.

Patricia H. It is a Doral. Nice boat. Hubby still getting used to it. Thanks for replies, will have to look into it. The trouble is that they are Shih-tzus and do not swim in the water voluntarily like a retriever and others.

I would never take my dog on a boat.

I think by the 500th time of fishing him out after he'd leapt off the side and couldn't get back out again.I'd get a bit bored of it.

My dog thinks he's a duck.
