I used a computer online every day for three and a half years, with no firewall and no anti-virus software whatsoever, before I encountered a problem (which I fixed in under 5 minutes). While, of course, it makes sense to be security conscious, it's a total myth that bad things will happen as soon as Microsoft's (so-called) 'support' ends.
People who don't use online banking can probably carry on using Vista for many years yet.

Fair points Buenchico. I would however certainly not recommend connecting to the internet without a firewall and anti-virus software enabled these days. Don't forget not all computer users have the same level of expertise to avoid being hacked. Sometimes it can happen without one knowing it and all will seem well.
