We too grow our own, never ending supply well into November, granddaughter doesn't like lettuce but she loves to go down and pick her own.
They are pretty tasteless from the supermarket, I grow my own salad items and they taste far better, still got some fresh beetroot and spring onions in the garden now.
I think what this highlights is the huge food miles we run up. There has become an obsession with all fruit an veg all year round meaning it has to be imported from a country in the right place. This is totally unnecessary as is the amount of salad items lobbed onto everything. This may be a good thing to wake us up.
