Hi Billy
Thanks for your eeply - my connection cuts off as I press 'SEND' for the email to go.
My ISP is Tiscali and when I went to Tools - Internet Options - Connections the part with the dot says
'Dial whenever network connection is not present.
I could not see a bit for hang up etc. I am really a novice with the computer - alright when everything is going well, but when it gets a problem - oboy - I am lost.
Thanks again and perhaps you can come up with another solution.

In case BNM doesn't see this post, I'll have a go at answering it.
Like BNM, I suspect that Outlook Express is actuallly sending the mail and then disconnecting afterwards. I suggest trying to send an e-mail to your own e-mail address. When your system disconnects, reconnect and click 'Send/Receive'. If your e-mail is now in your Inbox, you'll know that the disconnection is occurring after the mail is sent. (Conversely, if it isn't, it would seem that clicking 'Send' is causing immediate disconnection).

If the e-mail to yourself arrived in your Inbox, take another look at the settings which BNM directed you to. (You seem to have gone one stage too far while working your way through the settings). Go to 'Tools', then 'Options' then click on the 'Connection' tab. At this point, the top section should be labelled 'Dial-up'. (To get to the stage where you were before, you seem to have clicked 'Change' further down the screen. Leave the 'Change' button alone!). The second box in the 'Dial-up' section should be labelled 'Hang up after sending and receiving'. If there's a tick in the box, click on it to remove the tick, then click 'Apply' followed by 'OK'.
If your e-mail got through but you found that the 'Hang up after sending a receiving' box had no tick in it, click on it to insert a tick. Click on 'Apply'. Then click on it again, to remove the tick. Click 'Apply' again and then 'OK'. (Don't ask me why that works. I just know that, sometimes, it does!)
Lastly, if your e-mail didn't get through, then this would suggest that your registry is corrupt. That means that you need to run System Restore. (If you don't know how to do that, just post again. BNM, myself or someone else will soon tell you how to do it).
Good luck!
Chris

Hi Buenchico - Joko and Billynomates
Thanks to the three of you for helping a 'maiden in distress' a complete novice with computers.
After all the advice I received from you all, I now have managed to send my emails once more. I unticked the box
'Hang up after sending/receiving' - Now back in action.
Thanks a million.
