DDR1,2&3 Memory Types

Is a PC 3200 (400MHZ) DDR1 Motherboard Compatible With A DDR2 or (G)DDR3 Graphics card?

Most 256Mb Graphics cards, Radeon X800 for example, uses DDR2 or (G)DDR3 so i was just wondering...

With an Athlon XP 3200+ (2.2Ghz) and 1Gb of Ram i have recently ruined my Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card and am trying to get another but i would not like to see my computer go up in smoke, explode or generally becaome a pile of molten metal (or fail to function being the underlying worry).

Any help? Any Suggestions? Anybody?

I doubt very much that having different types of memory on your MB vs the type on your graphics card is likely to cause an issue let alone ruin a grahics card.

The memory on the graphics card is just for its own use with its CPU. It talks to the MB via the bus whether it be AGP or PCI.

Can you advise the exact type of MB you have. I'd like to research this a little more and prove my statement above wrong !!

BNM is correct. The Graphics card memory is completely independent of the Motherboard memory. In effect, the graphics card is a completely separate computer that simply communicates via the AGP port
