Fido U2F Protocol - What Is That?

I chanced upon this: a "FIDO U2F Security Key". It is a key that one can use with computers/OSs, *if* they meet this protocol. How can one verify whether one's HW or SW has this. I have the impression that this is a newish standard. Can one "update" to this protocol?

You must use Chrome (version 38 or above), as that's currently the only browser supported. (That doesn't apply of course if you're accessing a web service via its own app, rather than through a browser. In that case the app needs to be U2F-compliant).

Other than that there shouldn't be any restrictions.
