Went to do recycling this morning. There was an elderly chap there with his car. The boot was full. Im sure he used it as a dustbin. It was full of loose bottles, empty food containers, left over food, rubbish everything you would put in a dustbin. Not a plastic bag in sight, everything was loose. Why?
In this day and age everyone has a dust bin let alone a pedal bin.

Maybe he lives in a property where it's difficult to get a wheelie bin in and out. Steps, slope, terraced house etc.
How long were you staring in his boot?

leftover food in his boot unbagged?
Perhaps he's homeless and has to live in his car and the boot is his dustbin. Or it was all in a bag but it split on the way to the tip.
we are told not to bag recycling but to put it in loose. As for left over food, I'm surprised he was not stopped by the attendants at the Tip.

We only have boxes and when they are full we are told to use white bags.
Maybe his bin was full

We don't bag recycling. Not allowed. And besides it defeats the object. Perhaps he had a boot liner.
At least he is recycling, not dumping it at the roadside!
It doesn't defeat the purpose. Recycling, bagged or not, goes to a recycling centre. Household waste goes to landfill.
Ummmm it goes to a recycling centre where unfortunate people have to open all the plastic bags that have been tied up, that is why they don't want you to bag up recycling
I agree dazzleflash. We use bags for our household food waste that can't be composted, but the recycling goes into the bin unwrapped. We take plastic bags to a local recycling centre, where they have a special bin.
