The first time I bought any I went to a surgical appliance shop and went in, the bloke behind the counter was talking to two female customers.
He asked me what I wanted so (reluctantly, in front of the women) I said 'A packet of Durex please' and he said 'What size?'
I looked at him and said 'Well, average I suppose.'
He said 'No, 3 or 12?'
The women just dissolved....
