I had the inside bits of my toilet cistern changed three weeks ago as water was leaking into the bowl .I paid the plumber £71. Yesterday the problem recurred so I called the plumber back . He fiddled with it for a couple of minutes and said it was fixed. Two hours later I noticed leaking into the bowl again and noise of refilling . He came back and changed the syphon. I then got an invoice for the cost of the syphon plus £65 labour charge.
I don't think I should pay the labour charge as it was part of the main job which he didn't do in the first place. Am I right ...?

He's not much of a plumber if he can't sort out a toilet. A competent diy'er could fix it. Don't pay him!

Thank you...
I had a similar problem with my toilet. I googled the problem & how to fix it, Bought the spare part for less than £20.
Take the lid from the cistern, flush the toilet is the float catching on anything ?
If when you flush the toilet and the water level is just too high then on the arm with the float there is a small screw that stops the float rising, screw this out, turn it anti-clockwise slightly, flush again repeat till happy with water level.
Lorna .. a picture of inside your cistern would save a lot of guessing. We will be able to tell you what to do yourself. It's a description I have seen many times on jobsheets ..' water dribbling into pan'. It is an easy fix as a rule.
... and no dont pay twice for a repair that he should have sorted on the first visit.
I've had the same problem as you just this week & have isolated the water entering the cistern (luckily I have a downstairs toilet too) until the plumber arrives, hopefully soon..they seem very busy people! I didn't know I had a problem with water running into the bowl as it wasn't really noticable & it was only when I got my recent water bill which had doubled in price for the same period last year, I realised something was wrong & after speaking to my neighbour, she told me they had the same problem a year or so ago & told me to check it. So, if your water bill has increased, you will know why
Bend the arm with the float on, that'll stop it,
