"200 illegal migrants a DAY caught sneaking into UK- and that's in just one month"

Leaving aside the more important issue of how many don't get caught, I do not see what the words "and that's in just one month" add to the headline. 200 a day is 200 a day- whether it's over a month or 6 months. If anything it tells me it's a short period over which to draw any conclusions and maybe the Express has been selective in its choice of time period.

Samjenko I can't 'prove' the figures no one can , they are un-provable by their very nature, but many other sources have estimated that only 10% of those trying to get in illegally actually get caught.
Eddie,
AOG says 25,000 were caught in 6 months.
So that would be 50,000 in a year.
If 50,000 is 10% of the true figure, then that still comes to half a million, or nearly double the number of legal immigrants. Seems unlikely .
Gromit, I am surprised that 'automatic self-censorship' and towing the line ( to whoever has control/influence/Power) puzzles you.[ not even considering selling product.]
Not at all unlikely , illegal immigration has always been far higher than legal immigration. We can never prove it as I said. But 10% or less getting caught has been quoted as a 'ball park' figure many times.
You seriously think there are, on average, around 1400 illegal immigrants coming into Britain every day?
^^ If 200 a day are getting caught it is naive to not to think that a higher % are getting away with it !
As I said customs admitted that they only have staff to check 6% of the lorries that come into the UK every day! So 94% are not checked and any illegals in them will not be caught unless they hand themselves in!
Then it is impossible to even estimate how many are put ashore at night on any of the 8,000 miles of coastline the UK has!
Yet again I have to say leaving the EU will not affect these figures at all!
Well said whiskeryron at 7:56 ...
Eddie, your deluded. There were 6400 migrants in the Calais camp. By your reckoning it should have cleared in about 4 days.
The Calais camp had as more arriving each day than leaving it was permanently growing!
Not when they cleared it out Eddie. You're figures are preposterous.
Your.
