it may be invalid
or depending on the wording of the contract
still be valid for survivors
so she needs to ring up
and also do the same for house insurance
sprry for her loss
as for being stopped by the those automated camera thingeys- the govt computers would be required to hand-shake to an extent we are unused to seeing - to achieve that one
If she is only a named driver on the husband's insurance the policy is cancelled with the death of the policyholder. It would be different if the insurance was a joint policy between the two of them.
If a policy is cancelled immediately on the death of the policy holder it leads to an interesting situation if the death occurs whilst out in the car; the car is immediately on the road uninsured so, technically, someone can be prosecuted. In any case, the car cannot be kept on the public roads until new insurance is taken out. I wonder if this case was considered when the law on insurance for cars on a public road was changed a few years ago and allowance made for it.
^ I am certain that if a named driver was driving the car and while they were out driving the policyholder died they would still be covered.
There would only be a problem if the policyholder died before the named driver got in the car. Interesting problem though.
