its by ennio morricone and its from one of the spagghetti westerns.which one im not sure,its either good,bad,ugly. fistful of dollars . or for a few dollars more. hope this helps.

thanks - I have checked out samples of the music from the 3 films, and some of them sound very similar, but not the same :-(

Metallica opened alot of shows with this tune after their manager bob rock suggested it, its from the good the bad and the ugly.. Also opens the S and M album and DVD before they go into Call of Ctulu

thank you both so much - I had tried the sample of that track on Amazon.com but it is only 30 seconds long so it didn't get to the bit I recognised. I am now off to download the whole track. I have been listening to it for years on a Metallica live album, and thought it was their own composition then heard it last night on ITV's coverage of the England match.
