I have a new Acer laptop on which I use BT Yahoo email. When typing an email the programme changes the first letter on the second and subsequent lines of each sentence to a capital letter. This doesn't happen on my old Sony Vaio using exactly the same OS and email programme. My useful teenager can't sort it, can you?

You've told us the make of laptop, your operating system and your email provider but you've omitted to tell us which program you're using to send and receive emails. Since it's that program which is generating the unwanted capital letters, we're left guessing as to a way forwards.

However I'll guess that you're using the Windows 10 Mail app. A quick bit of googling suggests that lots of people have experienced the same problem but, unless Microsoft have come up with a fix since the various threads have appeared online, there appears to be no way around it.

For example, Microsoft's response to the problem here was simply that "Mail app is designed to work in this way":

So it appears that your only solution might be to abandon Microsoft's own software (which is always a good idea anyway!) and to use a decent email client instead:

Hi Buenchico, thanks for your response. How do I know which programme I'm using. After a local tech set up my new laptop I just clicked on manage emails on the control panel page and set up my two accounts. The weird thing is, I have put Windows 10 on my old laptop and set it up exactly the same as the new one, the capital letter problem doesn't happen, go figure.
A machine which has been upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 will still have Windows Live Mail on it and it seems to be that program which your older machine is still using.

A machine which comes with Windows 10 pre-installed will use the Windows 10 Mail app instead. (The program is actually just called 'Mail'. It's described here as 'beautiful but bug-ridden https://arstechnica.co.uk/information-technology/2015/07/windows-10-mail-its-got-bugs-and-missing-features-but-it-looks-nice/ and you seem to have found one of its many bugs).

Install Thunderbird!
