I was talking to a friend yesterday and she was shocked at what I spend weekly - she said hers was at least double! So I told her that I do a weeks menu for evening meals every single week ( doesn't matter what night we eat them, I just swap it about) and then go through freezer and cupboard to see what I have, always cook from scratch apart from maybe once a fortnight takeaway. So ignoring alcohol or cigarettes(we don't smoke anyway) I spent about £40 per week on all food and household items, plus about £20 at local butchers but that can often last two weeks worth of meals. That's for two of us and always extra meals to freeze in that. Friend says she spends well over £100 per week on just the two of them!

We've just started doing exactly like you Smow - plan and buy for just the week. Our amount of waste has dropped amazingly as well.
We have most of the major supermarkets within 3 miles and we are always getting vouchers for say £5 off a £40 shop so we adjust our shop so that it comes to £40.50 or suchlike and take the £5 off.

Allen I'm London too! I've become a bit obsessed by it much to hubbys amusement. I won't throw anything out so say I'm making a cottage pie and I've done a teeny bit too much mash I save it and make something like fish cakes the next day.

I have the weekly shop delivered (apart from trip to butchers) and pay for a monthly saver plan so it's £6 per month no matter what time of day or week I get the order delivered.
sounds like you know what you are doing. I used to see people in waitrose have trolleys so full you could hardly push them, as to Iceland the few times i once shopped there i was astonished at all the junk food, which is more costly than fresh.
In case I sound wasteful my shopping bill would include everything for the household.
Ummm I haven't included household extras like kitchen roll or deodorant and hairspray etc in my £30, that £30 is purely food.
We spend about £70-£80 on the two of us including the 6 cats and daily papers. Occasionally maybe once every 6 weeks its a little more. But I have meal planner on the fridge and its done until I go away on holiday in May. I have meals frozen in the freezer and some things ready to be made into meals.

Six cats wow lol. I love cats
Depends where you shop .... I certainly notice the difference betwen shopping at Aldi/Lidl compared with Sainsburys or Tescos!
I spend about £120 a week and that's for everything (not including alcohol) - all meals, lunch boxes, treats every night, etc for 7 of us.
