I've seen the advert for Hive where you pay £9 a month so you can control your heating from your phone.

Is that it? Or is there more to it? Can't believe anyone would think that would be worth it. Maybe I'm missing something.

When the indoor temperature drops below a certain value, my heating comes on automatically. When it rises above a certain value, it switches itself off, again automatically. It does this whether I'm there or not - that's what's meant by "automatically". It's called a - wait for it, pop pickers - thermostat. Doesn't cost me anything a month.

Yes I know , but switching the heating on full mid summer to annoy the wife while you are work, is priceless :-)

Give it a few months and I'm sure a hacker in North Korea will have access to your home heating ...ha ha
That's what neighbours are for, isn't it?
You certainly wouldn't save anywhere near £108, especially considering the heating is off half the year.

You would have to live alone as well (or be beastly to your family)

Yes, it's just a gimmick surely.

Exactly! But I wonder how many people are shelling out each month.
Isn't there a free service (okay, maybe there is a small call/internet usage charge if outside your allowance) that comes with a smart meter? I have a friend who controls his lights etc via his phone and I can't imagine he'd pay anything as he is so careful with his money.
