Transatlantic seats on standby?
4 Answers
I heard a rumour that airlines no longer offer 'standby' seats to people who need to get to exotic locations but aren't really bothered how or when they get there, and actually quite enjoy the taste of airport food. Can anyone out there confirm or deny this or offer any suggestions as to how I might best get to Las Vegas in May on a shoestring (if that's not throwing it open to the comedians I don't know what is...) Many thanks!

What I would do is have a look today to see if there are any flights for tomorrow to las vegas, do that a couple of times a week for a few and you should see a trend of when (or if) last minute flights are avaliable. For example did a quick search on lastminute.com and got a return flight to veags for 255.
Just had a look for standbye flights and it seems the systems changed. have a look here http://www.itravelnet.com/transport/air/standbyfli

Why not fly to LA and then drive or take a bus from there? It's not that far from LA to Vegas (about 3 hrs) and the drive in is breathtaking - particularly if you arrive at dusk, when the city seems to appear out of the desert as a see of lights. There will be more flights to LA than Vegas from the UK and thus cheaper prices.
