No Plate Or Pin. Why, Pain?

Back in 1994 I fractured my tib and fib at my ankle.

When I was taken down to theatre and put to sleep to have a plate put in, an eagle eyed doctor studied the x-rays and thought that it would be better to just put me in a full plaster instead of fixing a plate and pin.

I spent the next 5 months in varying sizes of plaster and then had physio after that. For the next 20 odd years everything has been fine. However, for the past year, whenever I turn my foot or move backwards without lifting it off the floor, I get a sharp pain in the joint that is so acute, that I cry out.

My question is, why is this happening now, because not plating it meant that the bone would grow back naturally?

I do have osteoporosis.

Thanks.

first thought is a bone spur. If it was me I would be going back to doc.
I very much doubt that what happened over 20 years ago has anything to do with what is happening to you now!

its always a possibility but just a guess. Any pain sharp enough to make you yell should be taken to a doc though.
Not likely to be the DIRECT result of that traumatic incident some 20 years ago.
It could be anything from osteo- arthritis to Achilles Tendonitis.
You need to see a Dr for examination and possible X-Ray.
Doesn't sound a big deal.

No, I didn't think it was, sqad. I'll mention it to my doctor at my yearly/routine appointment next month and, see what he says.

Thanks.
