Got a mental block! What is the phrase which means someone has written something that looks like praise but is a thinly veiled criticism? Something like double edged sword but obviously not that. Help.

Yes backhanded compliment is what I was thinking of but I also like damned with faint praise!
I thought back-handed compliment was the opposite, something that sounds bad but is ctually good.
I'm still learning!
Backhanded compliment Def. :What might at first sound like a compliment but could/should really be taken as an insult when considered in its entirety.

Damn with faint praise Def. :  to give praise without enthusiasm in a way that shows one really dislikes someone or something. William Shakespeare.. Hamlet's Last Soliloquy
