I'm off to Rome soon, and although I have travelled in other countries as a lone pensioner without worries, there seems to be a lot of mention of bag- snatchers in guide books about Rome.

Bit beside the point but in the USA a 'Bum Bag' is called a 'Fanny Pack' The word 'Bum' has a different meaning somewhat similar to 'Tramp', so you can imagine what the US version of a Bum Bag would be! Another example of American English >
