I'm about to stary work in a bar... any tips

Can any one help, im about to start work in a club, Yateses. I'm only 18 and Ive never had a job before and am really scared about workong behind a bar. I'm also kind of posh and am expecting some abouse/sleezy comments. Any tips on handeling them or any general tips on bar work. Thanks Lauren :o)

Well it will be a bit of a culture shock at first! I had to work in a bar when I first started Uni and it was arwful at first, but it does eventually grow on you. I think the key is to try and drop any stereo types you have of people. Just take people as you find them and don't judge them on first appearances. (It will be hard!) If you do get pervs which you probably will, think up some quick witted come backs so you make them feel as pathetic as their comments! If you can't do that then the best thing to do is just switch of and just boogie behind the bar and just remember that its only a bar job and your destined for bigger brighter things!

I absolutely loved doing bar work when I was a student. You do not have to put up with abuse and sleazy comments, just tell the bar supervisor. Make sure you stand up for yourself and be confident. You will soon get into the swing of things once you can pour a decent pint and figure out the till! Good luck!
