Hi Folks,

We have just moved into a hard water area. I fitted a water softener that has proved its worth in gold, however we have a problem with our kettle. I thought that by fitting a water filter it would cure the problem, we now have excellent drinking water but it has'nt cured the problem with our kettle.

Has anyone a cheap and cheerful method for descaling kettles? What is the best method for keeping a kettle scale free?

Regards

I live in a hard water area and use a product such as Oust for my kettles.

I am interested to know what sort of softener you have.
even if you have a softener, you are supposed to drink from a tap that isn't softened - i have a softener, but the cold tap in the kitchen isn't on the same circuit

Hi Ethel,

I bought mine from:

http://www.emwc.co.uk/products2.asp?CategoryID =2&*************=51

629.95 and worh every penny. I've had it for about 3 months and still on the first bag of salt. My brother in law has an identical one in every respect, other than the outer case, that he bought from a water softener company that he paid over 1500 for.

Thanks for that. :)
We bought a small metal mesh from Wilkinson's which attracts lime from the water and works very well. When it eventually gets thick with limescale squeeze it between fingers to release the scale and pop it back in the kettle again, lasts for years.
