Who does Dawn French think she is trying to make herself look smart with little kids shepherding sheep. She was dreadful in the Vicar of Dibley and this is just making fun of young children whose parents shamelessly push their children into the limelight.
I would have said that she was possibly 'adequate' in the Vicar of Dibley (rather than actually 'dreadful') but a proper actress, rather than a comedian trying to act, would have done the job far better.
The BBC (and independent production companies) seem to have an obsession with using comedians as actors. It can sometimes work (as with Fry and Laurie as Jeeves and Wooster) but far too often it simply ends up as a disaster. (Johnny Vegas can barely act. Lee Mack can't act at all. . . etc. etc).
Despite the fact that many of my favourite Youtube videos are those of talented kids, from all over the world, singing, I've not seen 'Little Big Shots'. That's partly because I know that Dawn French hasn't got the personality to 'carry' the show and partly because of some of the dire reviews of the show which only serve to confirm that opinion!
If you want to watch talented kids performing stick to Youtube
Buenchico, do you remember a programme many years ago called Junior showtime? I think something like that would be a better programme to showcase the talent of young performers.
I don't really remember Junior Showtime, Grumpy01, as I'd have been in my uppers teens when it started (so it wouldn't have interested me much) but Youtube comes to the rescue ;-)
I'd like to see a junior version of 'The Voice', which many other countries have, or perhaps a British version of Norway's 'Melodi Grand Prix Junior'.
Alternatively a competition for songs written for children (rather than children competing against each other directly), such as Italy's 'Lo Zecchino D'Oro' could make entertaining viewing:
I love little big shots, so many talented children with all sorts of talents unlike most talent shows which are usually just singing or dancing, there is so much variety and I think dawn french is lovely with children making them laugh and being a pal rather than just an interviewer.
Buenchico - Lee Mack is currently in the West End starring in The Miser with Griff Rhys Jones, so it looks like others may take issue with the notion that he can't act.
I like this programme and so far have enjoyed most of the acts. Dawn interacts very well with the kids. The children are brilliant and seem very happy .None have come over as being precocious.Last week there was a tiny five-years old boy with lots of trophies for Irish dancing.Brilliant! This week we had a little shepherd
boy with a lamb called Bubbles. He had also won competitions. When he put his arms round the lamb and kissed it, it was a lovely moment. Dawn French
might seem to be acting in a childish manner but the
kids love her.She does not make fun of the children.I don't compare what she was like in other tv.programmes.Anyway , if you don't like this programme you don't have to watch it.
I'm a fan of Dawn French and I thought she was excellent in the Vicar of Dibley. I don't watch this programme because I'm not too keen on performing kids.
