Quite a challenge until we found the 26.

Ruthrobin: To put it mildly! I have solved all the clues and have found 13 diagonals, but none of them seem to appear six times as a 26 in 1D. I am pretty certain that I have the unclued 1A and 24, but this is of no help. Could someone give me a nudge?

Thanks for the hint; it is perfidious that one of the letters in the diagonal is a checked only by one of the unclued words which it defines!
