Hey,

Has anyone on here ever invested in the stocks and if so has your experience been positive or negative?

I'm starting to look into stocks and perhaps investing with some disposable income I could afford to potentially lose.

Also if anyone has any good book recommendations on this subject please share so I can fully understand before I take the plunge.

I have and still do. On average shares tend to perform better than savings but there is always a risk. If you're someone who lies awake worrying about money then don't bother if you're OK with a bit of risk then shares are for you but be careful
I've had little dealings. Government sell-offs, employer company investment schemes, other investments that changed over time to be shares, whether I wanted that on not, and one just one "direct" purchase. Mixed experience. Some have done well, others not. Best advice is to stay involved. I went through a period when, feeling down, I couldn't be bothered with it all. When I started checking again I found two had reduced to zero ! We are not all Lloyds insurance investors able to lever compensation from the hard working taxpayer when we invest unwisely. Most of us have to look in horror at what long established and trusted to be permanent companies have managed to mess up.
... that or not ...

I was given some shares from Whitbread, after years of service! They cost me nowt & make me a few bob now & again, but, unlike the holders of Northern Rock shares I can't lose out! If you've got a couple of grand spare, then buy a few solid shares and prepare to leave them to someone in your will;then forget about them.
