What Am I Missing?

I've never had a coffee from Costa, Starbucks and the like and the fanciest coffee I've ever had (apart from liqueur coffees) is a cappuccino in a glass cup. Remember them?

Am I depriving myself of one of life's pleasures?

I think they are nice once in a while...I can count on one hand how often I go into one in a year. It's usually Cafe Nero's. I wouldn't go to McDonald's...Not the right atmosphere for lingering.

My local shop sells coffee from a machine. It's really nice.

I like Cafe Nero because they give you proper cups if you sit in. And their delicious lemon tart was sublime.

Maybe they want to control just how much milk goes in to their coffee.

I want a controlled (by me) amount of cold milk in my coffee - not a random dollop of hot. So I order an Americano and add the milk myself.

I've just been to a local cafe so the dog can have his regulation sausage during his Sunday walk, and I had a lovely cup of coffee (along with a sausage sarnie), it knocks spots off Costabucks and is cheaper. It's also a decent size and not a flaming great pint.

That being said, if I'm out shopping, I will maybe pop in and have a coffee or hot chocolate.

So, no. I don't think you are depriving yourself.

I don't like coffee, and most of the big chains make lousy tea (especially Starbucks), much better off at the small independents IMHO.
