Why would they do that??
I suspect Trump's strategy, if there is one, is to spook the Chinese into action in putting pressure on the regime to reign in its nuclear programme.
Why does N Korea have a nuclear programme? Because they fear a US invasion. So guess what effect this sabre-rattling is going to have on Mr Kim? Yep, you've guessed it: press on pronto with said nuclear programme. The only way ultimately to counter that is a deal with Pyongyang: aid for no nukes.
Nice to see Mr Putin showing his caring side though :-)

Incorrect ymb. Mr Kim is a fat little horror who oppresses his people but from his point of view having nuclear weapons is, in his eyes, a way of insuring the US won't invade and take his toys away.
He probably has just about enough nasties to cause a bit of a mess as it is. But invading the DPRK will only occur if its deemed the least of evils. And even then it's more likely to be some sort of strike to nobble his nuclear arsenal, if possible. But anything else would just destabilise the entire region, to what end? Just to remove Mr Kim? We only care about him because he might threaten us, which brings us back to the reason why he is going nuclear in the first place. Otherwise he is free to do as he pleases.

The silly thing is his "nukes" are pretty puny and don't seem to have much prospect of being operational for many years. Even most of his missile tests don;t seem to work, allegedly because the Americans have bugges their systems. Whether they have or not, it's that sort of tactic which is likely to be the most effective at keeping him in his box, rather than any actual violence.
"who gave him the nuclear capability in the first place, as others have said the country has no industry? so did the west supply him with weapons and if so why? "
The Soviet Union helped, or actually build, their nuclear research centre many years ago. I'd say therefore that country was a major player, and possibly Pakistan, maybe even Libya?
China too, who knows?
One reason they are poor is because so much money goes into developing nuclear, chemical, biological and conventional weaponry but I think the country is pretty industrialised.
