is bootpc part of windows xp???

Thanks for the answer PD! everytime my xp starts, 'bootpc' tries to make an outbound contact, how is that possible? i don't have linux?

That's odd indeed. So far, I've only found "bootpc" in relation to Linux. Try the following: type msconfig in start/run [enter, or click on ok]. Under the Startup tab, you'll find a listing of each program that's called to start after Windows XP is booted up. It's here that you can disable things that you suspect are unnecessary. Do you see "BootPC"? If so, uncheck the box and reboot. Look under task as well (if it's there) to check for more details about "BootPC". Don't forget to check the Startup folder as well, which you can find in start/programs. If all this is to no avail, we need to look in the registry. Cheers, PD
