why were aqueducts needed in 1700?

Same reason they were needed at any other point in time.....to move water over valleys....Let me guess, History homework?
Or if it should be '1700s', the canal age started in the 1760's, so aqueducts were used to carry the new canal transport system.
Or should this be in the "History & Myths" section? lol
