Hi Boob!
I'm sorry I don't have any quick-fix cures for you, just wanted to say I know exactly how you feel, I am totally terrified of needles, can't even watch someone being injected on TV! Just sitting here thinking about needles and being injected starts me off! Just wanted to let you know your not alone and I really feel for you.
Could you prehaps not be administed a bit of gas and air to help relax you? That was the only way they could inject me when I was pregnant, I was going through labour at the time.... but still maybe they could do this? Worth asking.
Good luck and easier said than done I know, try not to worry yourself too much about this and get them to put your needle phobia in their notes :o)
I'm exactly the same. Went to the Dr's the other day and he said "oh....just wait a minute" and i saw him rummaging around with the syringe and different blood vials. I went cold and started shaking and just said "be gentle with me".

Believe me, i didn't feel a thing and it was over in a tick.

Doesn't really help with your phobia but i hope this helps a bit

it is on my notes! i couldnt believe it when they told me i had to have a glucose test! then they booked my steroid jabs for the same day! Still gets it over and done with, never seen a gas and air canister there and i cant use it anyway, even in labour!
Hammerman, i didnt feel anything either, they are good in phlebotomy, its totally irrational i know, but i will just have to grin and bear it!
awwww boobs sorry to hear this hun :( all I can suggest is that you spend the whole time focusing on the fact that it needs to be done for your babies well being. Maybe that will help you to 'brave' it...hope I've made sense coz I'm naff & putting things into words lol

P.s hope you are yours are all well xx

i am most nervous about the glucose test, i am not so worried about the steroids as i never had them with callum and should of done, just hoping i am still pregnant in two weeks! thanks jo x
What is the glucose test Boobs? & how far gone are you now?
Question Author
26 weeks today, the glucose test is because i have 2+ sugar in my urine and they want to rule out gestational diabeties :-(
hi - not really helpful but anyway...

my sister has exactly the same problem a real needle phobia - she was in hosp last year & it took 6 nurses to give her a simple blood test!!

When she was in they discovered that she had a Vit B12 deficiency & had to give her an injection every day for a week, then once a week for a month then once every 3 months for the rest of her life!!...............SHE STILL FAINTS EVERY TIME!!!

She is now 20 weeks pregnant & is having major problems with blood tests etc and it is on her notes!.....The only thing she does is as SLOOW-JO says and focus on the fact that they are for the good of her and the baby and if she didn't have them they could both be quite poorly!

A xXx
Hi Boobesque

You say that you had a blood test a couple of days ago, and that you didnt feel anything; as you say it's irrational to be a needle phobe.

The next time look away. Don't look at the needle, don't look down at your arm, I'm sure it will help.

I know it's the thought of having the blood test rather than the test itself that worries you, and I do know how horrible it can be when you start to hyperventilate.

Apart from trying hypnotism ;) , all i can suggest is to remember what 'Slooow_Jo' said, which is the need for it to be done for the wellbeing of your baby.

Anyhow, best wishes and here's hoping the test for gestational diabetes is negative.

i made the mistake of looking at the needle for my 16 week bloods, this time i kept my eyes shut and squeezed mr boobs hand very tightly! I dont think i can see a hypnotist in time and am a bit dubious there! Ooh, i hope i am not diabetic!
y the way everyone, i wouldnt not get them done as i know how important it is, i'm just a big wussy pants!
Ask the nurse to talk you thru it with reassuring comments like 'nearly done now', 'soon be over' etc. The conversation helps take your mind off it. You could try a couple drops of Bachs Rescue Remedy on your tongue, it has a calming effect. You can get it in Boots, should be ok for pregnant ladies, but best to check with the pharmacist.
Hi again 'boobesque', regarding my comment about hynotism; I suppose it might work, but not in a few days!! I'm afraid I had no other real advice to give you - sorry.

By the way. I'm a recently diagnosed diabetic myself, and having read loads of literature on the subject, I understand only 2 to 4 percent of pregnancies result in the woman having gestational diabetes.

Even then, almost without exception, it goes away after the baby is born. One of the few occasions when diabetes will disappear once a diagnosis has been made.

Anyhow, even though not everyone on here was able to give you advice regarding having a phobia about needles, I think it's fair to say we all hope you won't get too stressed out in 2 weeks time. Best wishes.

Everyone has been lovely about my problem and although i may hyperventilate i am sure i can get through it! :-/
Thanks peeps, just have to grin and bear it!
There is a dead quick long lasting phobia cure in NLP which I practice but can't do online. 40 sets you free. No medication, no hypnosis. Just mental manipulation, (safe).
