Costs Of Texts & Calls To O2 Uk Pay Monthly Mobile In Spain

I have a friend just arrived on a weeks holiday in Gran Canaria. We both have an O2 Pay Monthly mobile. Without buying any further add ons etc, what would any extra charge be for say, a couple of texts per day along with a couple of two or three minute daily phone calls? Would costs differ from Spain to the UK, compared with UK to Spain. I'm afraid I got confused when searching the internet.

From the UK to Spain:
£1.50 per minute (to both landlines & mobiles) for calls
Texts 35p (Picture messages 40p)

You will be calling a UK number as far as O2 are concerned, so costs will be normal UK - same for texts. Your friend may be charged something for the call (I don't know what) but nothing for a text.

The UK to Spain costs in my post above only apply when calling a phone that's registered to a Spanish phone provider. If you call a UK-registered mobile phone from the UK (irrespective of whether you're calling from a landline or mobile), you pay exactly the same price whether the phone you're calling is in Manchester, Madrid, Mumbai or Melbourne.

I have a PAYG phone on TESCO. A couple of years ago I received a courtesy call from my garage checking that the service had been done to my satisfaction. Being in France at the time the call cost me to receive.

^^^ O2 doesn't charge for receiving calls when in Spain. (See my second link above).

To add, whenever we go abroad we get a text from TESCO telling us the cost of call and texts.

It is a little while since we had the call whilst in France, so I think it's likely that things have changed since then.Wasn't there some ruling about roaming charges in Europe or EU a while ago; things may change again when we escape.
