Recent maths breakthroughs

Hi. In a recent interview, I was asked to talk about the breakthroughs in maths over the last 25 years or so. Being only 17 I didn't have much of a clue. Anyone got any ideas of what I could have talked about?

The four colour theorem. A bit controversial, as it reduced the problem to a large set of basic maps and used computers to check these. Reviews by other mathematicians was much harder, so the proof wasn't initially accepted.
