Toilet Seat Not Staying Up

Hi All,

I bought a new toilet seat, a wooden one, the top cover will stay up, but the seat itself will not. i have adjusted the hinges and no joy. the previous seat did not have a problem. i went on google, but apart from two suction stickers and a piece of wire, there seemed to be no other advice.
Is this a fault with the seat/fixings, can I move the hinges?

I've had the same problem with a wooden seat, whenever male friends/ family were around I had to warn them, it looks to stay up... but could catch you unaware s if they weren't expecting it. the new wooden one seems better as I purposely slightly bent the fitting screws.

Research has been done which although at an early stage shows that men who urinate sat down are less liable to have urinary tract and prostate issues.

They also have a longer active sex life.

Another thing you could try is to take off the the little spacers on the lid if they come off. Then the toilet seat will go back that little bit further.

Same here in this house. Whilst not an ideal solution, my husband made a U-shaped clip from a tin can. What you do is lift the lid, then clip the toilet seat to the lid

Or buy a Bemis loo seat. They are excellent. Stay where you put them and don't move at all.

All you have to do Annie, is use a wood plane and trim some of the wooden seat where it touches the back of the lid cover, till it dosent fall back.

Then touch up the planed part with whatever colour it is, mahogany, pine etc!

Our toilet seat/lid will soon be going for a burton. Like yours, they're made of wood. The lid - complete with the rubber feet - is about an inch thick and the seat is about 3/4" thick. There's no room for 1¾ inches of wood and rubber resting against the cistern. They haven't a chance of staying up, so they'll have to go and will be replaced by thinner ones made from plastic
