Take 10 sips from a glass of water and count them out loud as you sip.
Try this. Time it just after you have hiccupped, then breathe out as far as you can, then in as deep as you can and hold your breath for as long as you can. Usually works for me as long as you time it right!
Have a drink of water upside down ie with your head pointed to the ground so that the water goes into the top of your mouth first. I know it sounds (and looks) silly but it works by somehow stopping the spasms that cause the hiccups.
Deep breath in through the nose, hold for as long as you possibly can, then very slowly out through the mouth does it for me. Repeat if necessary, but usually works for me on the second try.

Also, the drinking upside down thing does work. My young daughter can't hold her breath, so I get her to kneel on the floor, making sure the top of her head is touching the floor. Then I place a glass of water in front of her mouth with a straw in it and she drinks. A couple of mouthfuls of the water like this tend to do the trick.
boooooooo!!!!!!!!!
Fortunately I rarely get hiccups but taking two or three sips of wine vinegar usually works for me as it's extremely acid and gives quite a shock to the swallowing system, which breaks the hiccup reaction. However if your hiccups usually happen in the pub when drinking lager you may have to carry the vinegar around in a little hip flask !

or ask for 2 pints of lager and a sachet of vinegar please...
Whenever somebody has the hiccups, my boyfriend offers them 20 if they can hiccup again. It works every time!

no wonder your called Chmpagne then...

he sounds extremely generous, has he actually lost doing this ?
hold your stomach in really really tight (mainly the diaphragm area) and then drink a few sips of water. works every time for me. My mum works in a school and she says that if kids get hiccups she asks them to hiccup again and then they can't! She won't offer them 20 to do it though!! lol!
One that i swear by...

Take a deep breath, hold your nose and swallow three times!

Works every time! xx
eat a spoon full of sugar, its a bit mary poppins but it always works for me
No he hasn't lost, robertbaggio!! It works every time! He would be true to his word if somebody did manage to hiccup though.
teaspoon of vinegar, sipped.
It's all about not concentrating on the next hiccup as it encourages it....

If on a night out, to cure someone elses, get them to lay their hand flat on a wall/table/someone's back (the more obtuse the better). They need to take their forefinger of other hand and trace around every lump and bump on the hand. The other person is well within their right to tell them to start again as they've missed a bit. Shout a bit, snarl a bit and hey presto, hiccups are gone!

Not sure about a cure for doing yourself though! LOL!!

cheers.. might try it as a chat up line as well...
Drink a glass of water straight down no stopping for breath, keep going even if you hiccup, what my son calls a 'gulpy drink' .

ps must be water not lager!

Hiccups are caused by too much oxygen (to the diaphragm) so the solution that works is to breathe into a paper bag (like you would get someone who is hyperventilating to do) until they subside - this works by limiting the amount of oxygen that you inhale.

If you run out of oxygen in the paper bag before the hiccups subside, just release the paper bag at the side of your mouth a little to allow a small amount of air back in so you can continue to breathe without suffocating yourself.
Hold your breath for 5 hours - that should sort out any problem from ever recurring ever again!!!
