I have always had divan beds but now want to buy a bedstead and mattress. My son is very overweight so how do I make sure it will be strong enough for him.

the slats are fixed into rubber ends so no slipping also the slats are curved up so give better support to us heavy persons.
I bought the bed 13 years ago and only just recently replace 4 slats as they were beginning to bend in the opposite direction - believe me if it can take my weight it can take anyones - i was very very obese.

This is suitable for a single weight of 23 st or combined weight of 40 st.

Bluebird, my bed is very similar to this, buy it with sprung slats as it has more give, double check that it has a centre bar running from top to bottom and see it if has a centre leg (even better if it does).
You are going to pay a bit more but there is no need to pay for a special bariatric bed.
