will a dead body tan if left in the sun, or does the tanning effect only apply to live flesh?

No. It would be reduced to a skeleton in as little as 9 days.
ugh I wouldnt like to do this experiment !

Clearly it matters as to the conditions. The bodies in Katrina werent skeletions in nine days.

OK perhaps in the a desert.....but then it would get gnawed....

andyway whatever happens if you arent alive you dont tan.....which is a bioloigcal processand you need to be alive for this.

Why do you ask?
tanning is a biological process. It's an increase of melanin which reduces UV absorbtion in the body.
If a dead body was left out in the sun, it is likely it would become sun bleached on the exposed areas.

i suggest you dispose of the body BEFORE you find out for sure....!!! Lol
