Is London The Safest Global City In The World?

Well it's Mayor seems to think so, is it racist and islamophobic to suggest that if there were no Muslim terrorists and Black knife crime, perhaps he could be speaking the truth.

There are many challenges to keeping the public safe in any city but the attacks of the type we are seeing in England could and have happened in many major cities no matter how strong the Intelligence services are.
Regarding Mayor Khan's comments, it's a bold claim and he is obviously trying to provide reassurance but safety is a matter of perception and there will be many different views on the situation.

AOG
Mayor Khan said that London was one of the safest global cities, if not the safest.
The first part of the statement is correct. London is the eighteenth safest. That also means that the second part of the statement is incorrect, because we are the eighteenth, not the first.

The word Global is usually used to describe playing on the World stage. There re many cities around the world who the vast majority have never heard of.
AOG, I agree with the first part on the Islamic terrorists. I disagree with the second. Most 'black' knife crime is so called 'black on black' or gang related so presents very little danger to anyone else therefore in the context of the post I dont think that makes London any less safe; stay out of the well known areas and no problem.
To be fair to Mr Khan he is between a rock and a hard place. As Mayor it is his job to big up London to the World and sell it. If he stands up, throws his hands in the air and says we are all doomed then can you imagine what would happen.

Your last point makes a lot of sense, but I think your point about black-on-black crime is flawed. Those crimes cannot be discounted as 'not a problem for the rest of us', because even if these crimes only affect one demographic, it's still relevent.
For example, as a man, there is very little chance of you ever being raped, but just because rape predominantly affects women, it shouldn't be discounted when considering the safety of an area.

So safe, just as long as you are not black? To coin a phrase "Black lives matter also"
/// therefore in the context of the post I don't think that makes London any less safe; stay out of the well known areas and no problem. ///
So it rates as "The Safest Global City In The World"
Just as long as you are white and you keep out of "well known areas"?

it's ranked 18 on this list, surprisingly behind New York but ahead of Frankfurt

sorry, missed this second page and sp1814's link.
In this list, which seems to focus on personal safety, it's 42nd, but I don't think places like Niagara Falls and Rhodes really count as global cities. Their metholdology isnt' discussed.
